Logline:
Incoming freshman Lex has no idea what to do with her life. She loves making movies, but she’s not an idiot – that’s how you starve. After a celebrity alum offers a mentorship prize to the winner of a short film contest, Lex decides to get reckless with her future and put it all on the line.

Synopsis:

Lex gets to college and has no idea what to do with her life. Her film-loving father passed away years ago, leaving mom with little money and fewer options, but mom is committed to paying for her girl to go to college. To study something practical, of course – a career with a real future. But Lex has always loved movies, and one night, she gets swept into a guerrilla film shoot with a group of run-and-gun filmmakers. It’s one of the best nights of her life.

Lex is propelled into a strange and fascinating world of weirdos: film school. The film program’s diverse and eccentric cast of characters suddenly brings college to life. THIS is what college should feel like.

She meets with a film professor for more information, hoping to get talked into making the leap – the unusually jaded Professor Lutz, however, tells her the film major is a terrible idea. Lex attends a Film Major forum…where a celebrity alum shows up via Zoom and offers a mentorship prize to the winner of a short film contest. An opportunity only available to film majors.

On a dime, Lex changes her major to film and now has until the competition deadline in March to win that opportunity, cover her tuition, and prove that following her dream isn’t a waste of time. Though, until she wins…probably best not to tell Mom about it. Unfortunately, the intoxicating thrill of pursuing your dreams isn’t always dreamy. A series of disastrous events slowly pushes Lex to the brink, emotionally and financially.

Will Lex win the competition and prove to herself (and Mom) that she has what it takes to be a filmmaker? Or will her single-minded ambition create bigger problems than she knows how to handle?
