After the death of their father, 14-year-old Charlie and his older sister Callie relocate with their mother Tess to a crumbling New England town. But when Charlie discovers a puzzle box and a hidden lab linked to a dangerous secret society called the League of Inventors, he and his mysterious new friend Olivia must unravel the truth in order to save themselves and their families.
Summary: Tess Johnson has been running her whole life. A single mom and an in-home nurse, she's brought her kids, Charlie and Callie, back to her hometown of Hartwick Hollow under the guise of a fresh start. But Tess has her own agenda: uncover what really happened to her parents, June and Henry Baldwin, both scientists who vanished decades ago in a tragedy shrouded in mystery. Her kids don't know their true family legacy or that their lives are about to collide with the most powerful secret society, the League of Secret Inventors.
Her son Charlie, smart but uncertain, finds a puzzle box in his school locker that leads him and Olivia, a classmate with her own secrets, into a hidden world of forgotten inventions and buried truths. The two teens awaken a chain of events that unleashes dangerous tech, draws the attention of the League, and exposes the family's darkest secret: Tess is a Baldwin. And the League wants her inheritance.
As Charlie faces his grief, his growing distrust of Tess, and pressure to live up to a legacy he never asked for, he'll need to repair his broken family, and find the courage to do what generations of Baldwins couldn't: break the League's hold for good.
